Conceptual equipment illustration.
Choose a strapping machine by the load it must secure and the packaging it must protect. The strap must stay joined and correctly positioned without crushing a light carton. Maximum tension is therefore not the same as the right tension for the product.
Strapping can be one station within a packaging automation line. It should have its own package and consumable trials.
Strap Material and Joint Method Belong Together
Identify the intended strap material, width and thickness, then check the machine’s documented range. Different machines use different joining technologies. For example, Mosca’s SoniXs MS-6 H uses ultrasonic joining, supports specified PP/PET strap configurations and offers adjustable tension.
That example does not make ultrasonic joining a property of every automatic strapper. Check the selected joint method and its inspection procedure with the consumable actually proposed.
Use package trials to establish the tension window. Include the lightest or least rigid pack, not only a heavy solid load. Inspect strap position, corners and the joint after the package has completed the relevant handling test.
Distinguish Strapping from Film Wrapping
A strap concentrates restraint along a narrow path. Stretch film surrounds a load through a different mechanism; shrink film uses heat to contract around a pack. They are not interchangeable additions to a quotation.
Compare the full packaging task with the case-packing and wrapping scope. Some loads need more than one operation, but each needs a clear purpose and its own acceptance criteria.
Check How a Pack Enters and Leaves
For a conveyorized machine, define the package-present condition, position confirmation and completion signal. Coordinate the packaging-line integration so that the next package cannot enter an occupied frame.
A trial should include:
- A package stopped short of its correct position.
- A strap that fails to feed or join.
- Consumable depletion and restart after replacement.
- A downstream conveyor unable to accept the completed package.
Keep an incomplete strap cycle distinguishable from a completed package. If the operator removes a package during recovery, the line count should not silently include it as an accepted output.
For strapped pallet loads, coordinate release with the palletizing system. The pallet’s size and approach can change the frame and strap-position requirements substantially.
Compare Quotations with the Trial Configuration
List the strap, tension settings, positions per pack and included recovery functions. Review the established trial when the strap supplier or package construction changes.
Discuss the packaging restraint task with Motionwell, including whether it concerns individual cartons, grouped packs or pallet loads.
