Laboratory & QA Testing

QA Lab Automation — AMR + Cobot Integration

Fully integrated QA laboratory with MiR AMR + Universal Robots cobot compound mobile robots, 70-position sample storage with PLC-native WMS, and multi-station Instron testing orchestration.

AMR Cobot PLC Integration Instron
Challenge

A medical device manufacturer needed to automate their QA lab testing workflow. Manual sample transport between storage racks and multiple Instron testing machines was time-consuming, error-prone, and created traceability gaps in their quality records.

Solution

Motionwell designed a compound mobile robot system pairing MiR AMR with UR cobot for autonomous sample transport and station loading. A PLC-native lightweight WMS manages 70 storage positions across 7 racks, while bidirectional Instron communication automates test execution with zero-reset, speed setting, and start triggers.

Outcome

End-to-end automated QA testing with complete audit trail. Automatic test result file naming and upload to network storage. Verified retry logic and operator prompts maintain traceability even during recovery. Mixed human/robot operation with station safeguarding.

Medical Devices Assembly

Medical Rotary Assembly Machine

12-station rotary indexing assembly machine for safety syringes and blood collection tubes. Integrated vibratory feeding, BD-standard vision inspection, servo transfer, and Epson SCARA robot sorting.

SCARA Robot Vision Inspection Traceability Cleanroom
Challenge

A global medical device company required a high-throughput assembly machine for safety syringes that met BD quality standards. The process demanded consistent assembly force, reliable vision-based quality gates, and cleanroom compatibility (ISO Class 7/8).

Solution

Motionwell built a 12-station rotary indexing machine with servo-driven transfer, vibratory bowl feeders for component orientation, BD-standard vision inspection with contour recognition and OK/NG auto-sorting, and Epson SCARA high-speed pick and place for final sorting and packaging.

Outcome

Stable high-throughput production with consistent assembly quality. Vision inspection catches defects at source with automated reject handling. Cleanroom-compatible design with stainless steel construction and poka-yoke mistake-proofing at operator interfaces.

Electronics Testing

Cleanroom Electronic Testing Equipment

Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) series for mechanical and electrical testing of electronic components, connectors, and sensors. Equipped with FFU units meeting ISO Class 7/8 cleanroom requirements.

ATE Cleanroom PLC Integration Cobot Loading
Challenge

An electronics manufacturer needed automated test equipment for connector insertion/withdrawal force testing and cable bend fatigue testing, all within cleanroom conditions. Manual testing was slow and introduced human variability in test results.

Solution

Motionwell delivered a series of enclosed ATE machines with 4-6 FFU fan filter units for ISO Class 7/8 compliance. Multi-station circular transfer with cobot auto loading/unloading. PLC-based control with Siemens HMI, real-time pressure and displacement monitoring, and SPC-ready data logging.

Outcome

Consistent, repeatable test results with full data capture for SPC analysis. Cleanroom environment maintained throughout testing. Cobot loading eliminated manual handling and improved throughput while freeing operators for higher-value tasks.
